[Kingston, Ontario] Assume Nothing, a new compact disc created by nine Kingston artists, is set for official release October 10. More than simply a music CD, Assume Nothing features an extensive cd-rom section packed with information on the music and the artists, plus a full length crime-fiction novel that can be read on the computer or printed out.

Performing on this eclectic release are classical and flamenco guitarist Jim Graham, Celtic and folk musician Cynthia Gibson, singer Lesleigh Smith (a finalist in the Kingston Exhibition's 1999 Country Singing Showdown), singer Melanie Vancoughnett, guitarist/singers Alex Young and Steve Gillen, and spoken-word artist Bob MacKenzie. Newfoundland singer-songwriter Justin Brake added his skills as post-production engineer. The dramatic cover art (the original measures 4.5 by 6 feet) was painted by Kingston artist Richard Gold.

The release party for Assume Nothing, scheduled for Sunday, October 10, will feature a variety of live music. In addition to the group performing songs from the CD, individual artists from the group will perform from their personal repertoires. There will also be a pre-booked open stage, allowing other Kingston artists the opportunity to perform.

Richard Gold's monumental painting, "Survival", which was used for the cover art, will also be on display at the release party.

Artists wishing to perform on the open stage should book a time by contacting Bob MacKenzie at 546-5114 or writer@communication.ca as soon as possible.

Advance tickets include admission to the release party, live music all night long, and a copy of the Assume Nothing compact disc for just ten dollars. Advance tickets are available by contacting Bob MacKenzie or any of the Assume Nothing artists.

The release party will take place Sunday, October 10, starting at 8:00 p.m. in the lounge at Branch 9, Royal Canadian Legion, 64 Barrack Street at Wellington.
