The Rose and the Secret Balloon
by
Bob MacKenzie
The red balloon rose
smiling
through blue confetti
the man neared
the forked path
his walking stick
swinging
toward the garden.
The purple world hung
on each swing
the stick made
closer to the flowers
and the red
the secret balloon.
Wreak a new horror
retch like an earthworm
earth
as he penetrates
your bowels
and eats
the rose.
The stick enters
the open rose
the burst balloon
blooms and dies
as an afterthought
the man walks on.
The maroon world hangs
on each crimson swing
of the stick
of the flowers
and the red
the secret balloon.
