Note Regarding Netscape
In general, based on my use of both browsers, I highly recommend using the
Microsoft's Internet Explorer rather than Netscape. Netscape seems to have a
number of minor problems built-in which make it harder to use and at times
downright irritating.
All of my pages and sites are designed with Explorer in mind, then tinkered
with so that they will work with Netscape. However, they still work and look
much better when you use Explorer to view them.
In the case of the Mechanic "Mistaken Identity" script, the files were saved as
word-processor files so that they would be easy for you download and read.
This works fine with Explorer. Apparently nobody at Netscape ever thought
of the possibility that someone might want to download a word-processor file
from the net. So the Netscape browser refused to download the files and
instead attempts to load them as web pages. This is shockingly bad design on
the part of the people at Netscape!
The end result of attempting to download these files using Netscape is that the
WordPerfect file is total garbage and the Word for Windows file is mostly
(but not entirely) there but loses much of its formatting and is full of garbage (extra
characters, etc.).
With Explorer, the end result is a correctly formatted, clean word-processor
file all ready to read.
So, if you are using Netscape and you would like to read this script, borrow
the computer of a friend who has Explorer on board or -- better yet! -- erase
your Netscape and download Explorer 4. It's a joy to use.
On behalf of Netscape and myself, I apologize for any inconvenience.
